OUR MISSION
 
The mission of the Florida Water Environment Association Utility Council (FWEAUC) is to assist its members to achieve sound public health and environmental goals for the millions of users they serve in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Council works for the reduction and elimination of water pollution in Florida. The Council is specifically primarily organized to support the adoption and implementation of effective wastewater legislation, regulations and
policy at federal, state, regional and local levels. In particular, the goals of the Council are:

To establish a collaboration that will unite public wastewater utility interests for the purpose of defining and pursuing common objectives.

To support and encourage responsible, efficient and cost-effective wastewater management and the stewardship of natural environmental systems.

To inform and educate officials, policy-makers and regulators in the problems and needs of Florida's wastewater utilities.

To advance knowledge in the management and technology of municipal wastewater utilities by the collection and exchange of information.

To promote better understanding on the part of the public of the need for efficient wastewater utility management.

To develop more effective public service by encouraging the establishment of sound policies related to wastewater collection, treatment, reclamation, and disposal.

To coordinate the activities of individuals, corporations, and other groups or associations which tend to further and implement the policies and purposes of the Council.

Presently, the Council has six Working Groups: Water Quality; Sanitary Sewer Overflow, Deep Well Injection, Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator Staffing, Reuse, and Infrastructure. These working groups are active in monitoring and participating in regulatory and legislative developments concerning various facets of wastewater collection, treatment, reclamation, and disposal.

Current members of the Council include: Sarasota County Utilities, Palm Beach County Water Utilities, Orange County Utilities, Pinellas County Utilities, JEA, City of Tallahassee, City of Tampa, Martin County Environmental Services, City of St. Petersburg, Clay County Water Utilities, Charlotte County Utilities, Hillsborough County Water Department, Ft. Pierce Utilities Authority, South Central Regional Wastewater, City of Cocoa Beach, City of Kissimmee, City of Key West, Boca Raton Utility Services, City of Orlando, City of Ft. Lauderdale, Miami-Dade Water and Sewer, City of West Palm Beach, City of Sarasota, Broward County, Lee County Utilities, City of Ocala Water and Sewer, MTS Environmental, Inc., Carter & VerPlanck, Inc., and Lewis, Longman & Walker, P.A..
